Paul Revere and The Raiders Biography
With their Revolutionary War costumes and upbeat attitude, Paul Revere & the Raiders were one of the more entertaining rock & roll bands of the mid-'60s. They began in the late '50s as a more hard-edged outfit, and after the mid-'70s, they evolved into a musical-comedy lounge act. The Raiders were organized in 1958 in Idaho by leader Paul Revere. Highlights of their outstanding career are: The Raiders were the first rock group to be signed with Columbia Records. The group has had 25 consecutive hit singles.
The group has sold nearly 50 million records in the past 35 years. In 1965 - 1966 the group was featured on the ABC TV five-day-a-week network show; Where the Action Is produced by Dick Clark. In 1968 & 1969 Paul Revere co-hosted a weekly ABC series, Happening which featured the Raiders. The Raiders have done numerous TV and radio commercials such as Pontiac, Mattel Toys, Chrysler and others. In the summer of 1971 the Raiders' recording of Indian Reservation sold nearly 3 million singles, making it the biggest selling record for Columbia Records in 10 years. The group has performed thousands of concerts in North America and Europe as well as being seen on major TV shows. The Raiders appeared on 520 Where the Action Is network shows on ABC and Paul Revere for two years, co-hosted the network television series, Happening on ABC which featured the Raiders.
Perhaps most remarkable of all is that in spite of not having a hit in the last 25 years, Paul and his band of 20 years have managed to maintain an unbelievably successful show whether performing in the most intimate cabaret setting or in Mile High Stadium in Denver, Colorado to 87,000 rockin' fans. Always aware of where he is and to whom he is playing, Paul tailors the show to fit the occasion, making every show a personal experience for that audience. Many groups have had many hits but there are very few entertainers that can entertain an audience with such high musical skill, high energy and high level of comedy prompting people to come back time and time again to see what madman Paul and his Raiders will do next.
