Joey and Rory Biography
Joey & Rory -- the married duo consisting of Rory Lee Feek and Joey Martin Feek -- came into the country music limelight as finalists on CMT's Can You Duet. In addition to singing, Joey runs a restaurant with her sister-in-law outside Nashville called Marcy Jo's Mealhouse. Rory is an established songwriter with cuts including Blake Shelton's Some Beach, Clay Walker's The Chain of Love and Collin Raye's Someone You Used to Know. After placing third on the show, the two were signed to Vanguard/Sugar Hill records. They released The Life of a Song in 2008.
Before the duo's foundation, Rory Lee Feek worked as a songwriter in Nashville, Tennessee. Songs that he wrote for other artists included Clay Walker's Top Five hit The Chain of Love and Blake Shelton's Number One hit Some Beach . Rory also founded the independent label Giantslayer Records in 2004, on which Joey had recorded a solo album entitled Strong Enough to Cry in 2005. This album was never physically released, although it was made into a digital download. Rory also recorded a solo album on Giantslayer Records, titled My Ol' Man, which he also made available only as a download.
Joey + Rory performed on the CMT competition Can You Duet in 2008, in which they were the third-place finalists. Shortly after the competition, they were signed to the independent label Vanguard Records. Their debut single, Cheater, Cheater was originally recorded by the duo Bomshel, whose own version failed to chart earlier in 2008. Joey + Rory's version of the song was released in August 2008, featuring a music video that has a cameo from Naomi Judd, who had been a judge on Can You Duet. The song was included on Joey & Rory's debut album, The Life of a Song, which was released on October 28. In November 2008, this song entered Top 40 on the Billboard country charts.
The duo has also appeared in a commercial for the online retailer Overstock.com.
